Minister Flanagan commends today's Garda action in Dublin

Speaking from New Zealand, where he is accompanying President Higgins on a State visit, Minister for Justice and Equality Charlie Flanagan expressed his thanks to An Garda Síochána for their actions in arresting an armed man today, which he described as embodying the best of Irish policing. The Minister said:

I want to pay tribute to An Garda Síochána for the swiftness with which they put in place a major operation to disarm and apprehend this dangerous individual.

This was a terrifying experience for the people targeted. To bring this matter to a successful conclusion, without loss of life, is a testament to the Garda members involved and I thank them for their courage and their commitment to protecting the public.
