Minister of State for Gaeltact McGinley welcomes Connemara jobs announcement

Minister of State for Gaeltacht, Dinny McGinley T.D., has today (18/4/12) welcomed the announcement by An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny T.D., that Mylan, the largest generics pharmaceutical manufacturer in Ireland and one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies, is to expand its manufacturing and R&D facility, Bioniche Pharma, in Indreabhán, Co. Galway and create up to 220 new jobs over the next 3 years.

Minister McGinley said that the investment by Mylan will have substantial economic impact on the Galway Gaeltacht. “Mylan’s decision to significantly expand its facility in Connemara and establish it as a centre of excellence for the company’s injectable pharmaceutical products and R&D processes is a vote of confidence in the area and the local workforce. I commend both IDA Ireland and Údarás na Gaeltachta for attracting this investment to the Galway Gaeltacht. This is a prime example of how Ireland’s enterprise development agencies collaborate to ensure that the west of Ireland and specifically the Gaeltacht benefits from job creation through foreign direct investment.” The Minister of State added that Mylan has shown a considerable commitment to its Connemara operation, demonstrated by the fact that Bioniche Pharma currently employs 160 people at this location.

“This announcement by one of the largest companies in this global field,” Minister McGinley said, “sends out a message that Ireland is open for business and presents excellent investment opportunities for multinational companies due to our young, well educated and flexible workforce.”
