2020 National Day of Commemoration Ceremony
The annual National Day of Commemoration Ceremony, to honour all those Irishmen and Irishwomen who died in past wars or on service with the United Nations, will be held in The National Museum of Ireland, Decorative Arts and History, Collins Barracks, Benburb Street, Dublin 7. The ceremony will take place on Sunday, 12th July, commencing at 11:00a.m.
Attendance this year is significantly reduced in order to comply with Covid-19 public health guidelines on outdoor mass gatherings and in particular physical distancing requirements.
Accordingly, the event is not open to members of the public but will be broadcast live on RTE 1 at 11:00 a.m.
The President, the Taoiseach, members of the Government; the Council of State; Dáil and Seanad Éireann; Diplomatic Corps; Judiciary and Northern Ireland representatives will attend the National Day of Commemoration Ceremony in Dublin. The Band 2 Brigade, conducted by Captain Thomas Kelly, will accompany the soloist Ms Colette Delahunt.
Representatives of the next-of-kin of those who died in past wars or on UN service, ex-servicemen's organisations, as well as relatives of the 1916 Leaders, have also been invited.
The ceremony comprises of an inter-faith service followed by a wreath laying by the President on behalf of the people of Ireland. The ceremony will conclude with an Air Corps flypast.
Commemoration Ceremonies will also be held in Cork, Galway, Kilkenny, Limerick and Waterford on Sunday 12th July. In order to comply with Covid-19 public health guidelines these events are not open to the public on this occasion.
