Taoiseach to attend Informal Meeting of EU Heads of State or Government in Brussels

An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar will travel to Brussels today for an informal meeting of EU Heads of State and Government.

The President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, has convened the meeting to discuss the outcome of the European Parliament elections and to start the nomination process for the heads of the EU institutions.

He will also attend a meeting of the European People’s Party. 

Positions that will be filled this year are President of the European Council, President of the European Commission, President of the European Parliament and President of the European Central Bank. A new EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy - who will also serve as a Vice President of the Commission - will also be appointed.
