Last night the Dáil debated the Joint Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport’s Report on Accessibility of Public Transport for People with Disabilities

Pictured above is Minister for Transport Shane Ross with NBRU General Secretary, Dermot O’Leary.

Minister Ross thanked all employees in the transport companies, and their staff associations, including the NBRU and SIPTU, in helping to make public transport accessible for people with disabilities. He said, “ I particularly congratulate Mr Dermot O’Leary of the NBRU for his sincere contribution. Working together to achieve better transport outcomes for people with disabilities transcends all political difference.”

He also acknowledged the work of the Chair, Deputy Fergus O’Dowd, and members of the Committee on their Report.

Minister Ross especially commended “all those people with a disability who have shared their experiences of using public transport which helped inform and shape the Report’s recommendations to ensure better services”.

The Minister looks forward to working closely with employees, public transport companies and other stakeholders in the future to ensure better accessibility for people with disabilities to our transport system.
