National Gallery of Ireland welcomes iconic photography exhibition to Europe for the first time

Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Josepha Madigan TD will launch the exhibition “Moment in Time – Photography from the Bank of America” this evening at an event in the National Gallery of Ireland.

The National Gallery of Ireland presents 180 years of iconic international photography in its latest exhibition ‘Moment in Time: A Legacy of Photographs | Works from the Bank of America Collection’. This will be the first time that the exhibition travels to Europe.

Speaking ahead of the event Minister Madigan commented : “This is a remarkable collection which shows the ‘classic’ works by photographers such as Henry Fox Talbot and Henri Cartier- Bresson sitting side-by-side abstract images by artists like Man Ray and Arthur Siegel. The curators of the exhibition devoted themselves to raising the status of photography as an art form. The National Gallery aims to emulate them with this inaugural photography exhibition in conjunction with an exhibition of works from the Gallery’s own growing photography collection, entitled View of Ireland.”

Iconic American landscapes, scenes of daily life from interwar Europe, and abstract impressions of both the natural and manmade worlds are among the subjects found in the National Gallery of Ireland’s latest exhibition which opens on Saturday, 30 November. The exhibition draws on Bank of America’s extensive private collection, which is one of the largest corporate holdings of photography in the world.

Moment in Time: A Legacy of Photographs | Works from the Bank of America Collection opens on Saturday, 30 November 2019 and runs until Sunday, 22 March 2020.
