3,457 new jobs were announced across the country in February, which follows on from a strong start to 2016 with 5,125 new jobs announced in the month of January.

Among the companies announcing new jobs were US pharma company MSD which announced the creation of 200 jobs, Dalata Hotel Group which plans to create 100 new jobs at a city centre hotel, Centra, and University of Limerick. At the beginning of the month, Financial Services Ireland announced plans to create 1,000 apprenticeships over the next four years.

1,000 new jobs at University of Limerick

University of Limerick is to create 1,000 new jobs over the next four years in a major expansion, part funded by the European Investment Bank. 700 of these jobs will be in construction and nearly 300 more will be created on the existing campus as well as at a new campus in Limerick city centre. 

480 jobs at Centra stores nationwide

Convenience store retailer is to open 16 new stores this year, creating 480 new jobs.

Mid-February saw three large-scale jobs announcements in the space of one week as MDS, Swissport Ireland Ltd and Bord na Móna announced expansion plans.

200 new jobs at MSD in Carlow, Cork and Tipperary

The US pharma company will create 200 jobs across three of its manufacturing sites by the end of this year. 110 jobs to be in Carlow, with 50 based in Cork and 40 in the Tipperary facility.

Swissport Ireland Limited to create 200 new jobs at Dublin airport

Swissport is a ground handling business which provides passenger and ramp handling at over 220 stations worldwide. The company plans to create 200 new jobs at Dublin airport. The new positions will be in the areas of customer service, ramp handling and flight operations.

200 new jobs at Bord na Móna in Limerick

The utility service provider has announced a new facility which will create 140 jobs during construction and a minimum of 60 when operational.

175 new jobs for Galway at Chanelle Group

Pharma company Chanelle Group plans to double its production capacity and increase Research & Development capabilities, creating 175 new positions.
