€5m in funding for local job creation projects

€5 million in funding has been allocated by Enterprise Ireland to local and regional initiatives which will support new businesses and create jobs right across the country. Out of 50 proposals, 16 projects were funded under the LEO Competitive Fund. These projects will receive a total of €2 million in funding for local collaborative projects which will be grouped together by the Local Enterprise Offices. A further €3 million will be allocated to 32 projects under the Community Enterprise Initiative which aims to deliver projects that will create jobs.

Collaboration is a key element of these projects, bringing together local organisations within communities to work together on projects with the potential to create jobs.

Call for proposals later this year

Thanks to the success of the first two calls, Enterprise Ireland will issue another call for proposals later this year. This new call for proposals will be open to those that may have been unsuccessful under the first call for proposals and also to new applicants.

Regional job creation funds

The funding is the beginning of a new approach to supporting job creation initiatives at local and regional level in support of the Regional Acton Plans for Jobs, in line with the commitment in the Programme for Partnership Government to create jobs in every region of the country. The Regional Job Creation Funds were set up to boost job creation by encouraging collaborative projects between private and public organisations by providing incubation space, mentoring entrepreneurs, start-up accelerator programmes, supporting industry clusters within and between local and regional areas as well as local driven initiatives.
