Useful stats released this week
Releases this week show a fall in prices in the economy. Tourism and construction sectors are seeing positive results with more trips being taken to Ireland and more activity across the construction sector.
188,000 more trips were taken to Ireland between January and March 2015
- 1.531 million trips were taken to Ireland in Q1 2015, 14.1% more than the same period last year.
- The average stay was 6.5 nights and in total 780 million euro was spent. here.

Two reports show continued increase in the rate of growth of construction
- The Ulster Bank Construction PMI increased to 63.3 in May, the third consecutive increase.
- This acceleration in activity was seen in all sectors with housing activity recording 62.7, commercial activity recording 64.2 and civil engineering activity recording 51.9.
- According to CSO Production in Building and Construction Index, construction output increased by 1.4% in the year to Q1 2015. Compared to the preceding quarter output fell by 2.6%.
- In the year residential building increased by 21.8%, non-residential building increased by 3.4% and civil engineering fell by 1.3% in the year.

Industrial Production up 9.7% in the year to April
- In the month it rose by 1.7%.

1,260 more new cars licensed in Ireland this May compared to last year
- The number of new private cars licensed for the first time rose by 16.2% compared to last May.
- Private goods vehicles saw an increase of 35.6% or 560 more vehicles
- So far this year 15,846 more new private cars were licensed than the same period last year. Volkswagens have been the most popular, followed by Nissans and Fords.

Consumer Price Index fell by 0.3% in the year to May
- In particular, falls in the price of transport were caused by lower petrol and diesel prices and a fall in the price of cars.
- In the month the CPI rose by 0.4%.
