Minister Deenihan launches Brian Ború Heritage Trail Brochure

24th April 2014 - Jimmy Deenihan T.D., Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht this afternoon launched the Brian Ború Heritage Trail Brochure at St Flannan’s Cathedral, Killaloe, Co Clare.

Brian Ború’s journey took him from tranquil Killaloe on the shores of Lough Derg to the seat of Kings in Cashel and on to do battle in Clontarf, and finally to his resting place in the ecclesiastical city of Armagh. Funded by the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Galetacht this brochure highlights a selection of the important sites and buildings associated with Brian Ború. It is hoped that the development of the Heritage Trail will aid tourism in these areas which offer the visitor the opportunity to discover the many wonderful sites associated with Brian Ború.

Speaking ahead of the event, Minister Deenihan commented:

“In the week of the commemorations of the Battle of Clontarf, I am delighted to launch this brochure. I encourage everyone who has the opportunity to take a journey on this trail and to not only take in much of the beauty that Ireland has to offer, but to learn more about Brian Ború, this most elusive and interesting historical icon, and the complex series of events which led to the Battle of Clontarf 1,000 years ago.”
