Minister Deenihan to launch Sliabh Luachra Music Trail

Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Jimmy Deenihan TD, will this evening launch the Sliabh Luachra Music Trail in Ballydesmond, County Cork.

The Sliabh Luachra Music Trail involves local festival committees working together to create a year round programme of events in order to promote and celebrate the areas rich musical heritage.

Speaking in advance of the launch, Minister Deenihan said:

“The Sliabh Luachra area is synonymous with traditional Irish music, song, dance and poetry and has produced some of our greatest poets, musicians and songwriters, such as Aogán Ó Rathaille, Paddy Cronin and Johnny O’Leary. The Sliabh Luachra Music Trail is a wonderful idea which can expand on the area’s rich cultural heritage.”

The Sliabh Luachra Music Trail is an initiative led by Cork County Council in partnership with Kerry County Council and local festival committees. The project has received funding from Cork County Council, Kerry County Council and the Arts Council.
