Government congratulates Irish women’s rugby team following historic Grand Slam victory

The Taoiseach today congratulated the Irish women's rugby team after their historic Grand Slam victory:

I'm delighted for our women's rugby team on their grand slam win, they showed huge skill, courage and determination.

Minister of State for Tourism & Sport Michael Ring also congratulated the team on their victory against Italy in Milan. Ireland were already the RBS 6 Nations champions before the game, having won all four of their games to date and travelled to Italy to complete the historic Grand Slam.

This magnificent win follows on their triple crown success last month when they beat Wales, Scotland and England, confirming their place in the 2015 Women’s Rugby World Cup.

The Irish Women’s rugby team have swept the boards on their path to Grand Slam glory. I am pleased that this game was broadcast live by RTE this afternoon, giving fans across the country the opportunity to see the team in action.

Congratulations also to their manager, coaches, families and supporters who made this great win possible.
