Sherlock welcomes up to 25 new jobs as part of new high-tech investment in Cork

Research & Innovation Minister Sean Sherlock today welcomed the announcement by Swiss company u-blox that it is to invest €1m in a new Cork operation, which will design microchips for use in Global Positioning Systems (GPS).  The new facility will be located in Riverview Business Park in Mahon, Cork City.

The Minister explained that u-blox identified a talent pool of highly skilled people in Cork and this fitted with their expansionary corporate strategy.  These job numbers are now being built up from that small base, up to 25 high quality well-paid jobs.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Cork, Minister Sherlock said:

This investment by u-blox is a statement of intent in relation to their commitment to their new operations and helps build on an exciting strong base of high technology companies in the Cork region and adds to a growing cluster of thriving, innovative companies, which are providing a solid base for future job creation in the City. This announcement follows a significant job expansion by the EMC company very recently, and shows that there is a growing talent pool of skilled employees to satisfy the needs of discerning multinational companies seeking to set up or expand their operations here.
