Minister for Health invites Expressions of Interest for membership of Hospital Group Boards

Dr James Reilly TD, Minister for Health today, 5th July 2013 invited applications from people with suitable competencies and expertise to contribute to the reform of Ireland’s Acute Hospital System.

On foot of the commitment under the Programme for Government 2011 – 2016, the Report on the Establishment of Hospital Groups as a Transition to Independent Hospital Trusts was published on 14 May 2013. Hospital Groups will promote the highest standards of quality, governance and uniformity in hospital care. Over time, this will help to improve services and deliver better outcomes for patients.

Today, an invitation was published on the website of the Public Appointments Service, www.publicjobs.ie, seeking Expressions of Interest from people interested in becoming members of, or chairing, the Boards which are being established for each Hospital Group on a non-statutory administrative basis of the following Hospital Groups:

(i) Dublin North East;

(ii) Dublin Midlands;

(iii) Dublin East;

(iv) South/South West.

(Boards for the West / North West and Midwest Hospital Groups are already thus established).

Board members with suitable competencies and expertise will be essential to enable the Boards to contribute to the development and performance of the Hospital Groups.

The Minister said “This is an exceptional opportunity for people to share their expertise and make a positive difference to our Health Service and to the community. Becoming involved with a Hospital Group Board will help to ensure that the Group is working to achieve the highest levels of quality, safe patient care and to meet the needs of the population it serves in a cost effective way.”
