The Minister with Responsibility for Defence will present the 1916 Centenary Commemorative Medal to Serving Members of the Defence Forces in December 2016

As part of the Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme and in line with the Programme for Government commitment, the Minister with Responsibility for Defence, Mr. Paul Kehoe, T.D., will present the 1916 Centenary Commemorative medal to serving members of the Defence Forces at eleven Military installations throughout December 2016. 

 

The 1916 Centenary Commemorative medals were specially commissioned to mark the role the Defence Forces played in the centenary year. It serves to honour the central role of the Defence Forces across all seven strands of the Centenary Programme throughout 2016.

 

Speaking in relation to the upcoming ceremonies Minister Kehoe said “The members of Óglaigh na hÉireann have delivered exceptional service across each of the seven strands of the Ireland 2016 programme.  They have played an essential role in our national commemorations whether at the Commemoration at the GPO and the Parade on Easter Sunday, the ceremonies to mark the execution of the Leaders of the Rising or the formal delivery, to all primary schools in the State, of our National Flag and a copy of the Proclamation.   Speaking in relation to the medal he went on to say “I believe that it is a fitting tribute and thank you from the Government, on behalf of the people of Ireland, to our Defence Forces. I hope that the members of the Defence Forces who continue to serve or who have served during this centenary year will wear this medal with pride and in doing so accept the gratitude of the Government and the Irish people for their dedication to duty during this commemorative year”.

Monday 5th December at 10am, Sarsfield Barracks, Limerick

Monday 5th December at 2:30pm, Collins Barracks, Cork

Tuesday 6th December at 10am, Stephens Barracks, Kilkenny

Tuesday 6th December at 2pm, Defence Forces Training Centre, Curragh Camp

Wednesday the 7th December at 10am, Aiken Barracks, Dundalk

Wednesday the 7th December at 2pm, Cathal Brugha Barracks, Rathmines

Friday the 9th December at 10am, Finner Camp, Donegal

Monday the 12th December at 10am, Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel

Friday the 16th December at 9am, Haulbowline Naval Base, Cork

Monday the 19th December at 10am, Dún Úi Mhaolíosa, Galway

Monday the 19th December at 2pm, Custume Barracks, Athlone
