Jobs and Growth the key theme for Taoiseach's visit to Berlin

Taoiseach to meet Chancellor Merkel as part of a one-day programme of engagements

The Taoiseach travels to Berlin today, 3 July, for a substantial one-day programme of economic promotion and political engagements.

He will meet with Chancellor Merkel to discuss the Irish economy and current EU issues. The Taoiseach will then join the Chancellor at a major conference of the Wirtschaftsrat Economic Council, where he will give a keynote address to more than 2,000 leading German business representatives.

The Taoiseach will formally open a new Primark Store on Alexanderplatz in Berlin before attending a trade and investment event at the Embassy of Ireland with business clients of the State Agencies and members of the Global Irish Network.

The Taoiseach will also briefly visit a section of the former Berlin Wall, as 2014 marks the 25th anniversary since its fall.

Ireland and Germany already have a trading relationship valued at €23 billion annually. With particular focus on further enhancing these trade links, this visit will provide an opportunity to build on the positive image of Ireland in Germany.
