260 new jobs for Cork and Dublin

Taoiseach Enda Kenny today announced that two companies - Yahoo! And McAfee - are to create 260 new jobs in Cork and Dublin.

Yahoo! announced expansion plans for its Dublin Operations Centre, creating 200 jobs, having been in Dublin since 2003.

The company has already started recruiting for customer support, technology, operations, HR and finance which will support Yahoo!’s business across the Europe, Middle Eastern and Africa (EMEA) region.

The Taoiseach, who is expected to host a press conferece at the Yahoo! campus in California later today, said:

I'm delighted to welcome the further expansion of Yahoo! in Dublin with 200 new jobs.  Ireland is becoming the internet capital of Europe with companies like Yahoo! offering great opportunities to our passionate, highly-skilled work force.

Jobs Minister Richard Bruton noted that Yahoo! would be more than doubling its workforce in Dublin with today's announcement, and said: 

ICT is a key sector we have targeted and since we took office more than 10,000 additional jobs have been created in this sector. Today’s announcement is great news and further evidence that the plan is working.

McAfee also announced that they will establish a global Research & Development Centre of Excellence in Cork this year, creating 60 jobs.

The Taoiseach called it 

...a fantastic announcement for Ireland's growing digital industry and for the people of Cork.

Minister Bruton said the announcement was:

...a major boost for the sector, for Cork and for Ireland.

The company will be looking for software engineers to be part of a dedicated engineering team to provide engineering responses to sales opportunities for the company.
