Taoiseach attends EU Summit

Taoiseach Enda Kenny will attend the European Council in Brussels on 20-21 October where migration, the situation in Syria and the EU relationship with Russia will be discussed.

A substantial exchange on trade policy is also expected: the Taoiseach will stress the importance of trade in creating jobs, growth and investment and the need to respond to today's challenges with an outward-looking and balanced trade policy which also takes account of concerns about environmental, consumer and social protection.

Prime Minister May is expected to update leaders on developments in relation to Brexit from the UK perspective, although a substantial discussion of Brexit is not envisaged at this meeting.
