APPOINTMENT OF NEW DEPUTY CHIEF OF STAFF (OPERATIONS) OF THE DEFENCE FORCES

The Minister with Responsibility for Defence, Mr. Paul Kehoe T.D., is pleased to announce the appointment of Colonel Anthony McKenna to the position of Deputy Chief of Staff (Operations) of the Defence Forces with effect from 20th June. The Cabinet approved the appointment at its meeting today 18th June. Colonel McKenna will be promoted to the rank of Major General on assuming his appointment.

Colonel McKenna brings over 37 years of experience in the Defence Forces to bear in his new role. Throughout his career he has served in a variety of command and staff appointments both at home and overseas, with tours of duty completed in several conflict areas around the world, most recently as Deputy Commander of UNIFIL Sector West.    

Speaking of the appointment Minister Kehoe said

I wish Colonel McKenna every continued success and I know he will make a significant contribution to the Defence Forces in his new role as Deputy Chief of Staff (Operations). I look forward to working closely with him in the future.
