Albacore Tuna Fishery – Spanish authorities confirm that no restrictions will apply to Irish vessels landing into Spanish ports

Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Michael Creed T.D., confirmed today with the Spanish authorities that no restrictions will be applied to Irish vessels landing albacore tuna into Spanish ports.

Minister Creed said “I became aware in recent days of reports of Irish vessels being prohibited from landing their tuna catch into some Spanish ports. Such action is unacceptable to me and contrary to the Common Fisheries Policy and EU law. We contacted the Spanish authorities and I was pleased to receive their prompt assurances that no such restrictions will be applicable to Irish fishing vessels.”
