Department hosts Grassland Symposium on the Role of Sustainable Grassland in FoodWise 2025

The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine today hosted an open policy debate: Grassland Symposium on the Role of Sustainable Grassland in FoodWise 2025.

The prominence of grasslands uniquely underpins Irish agricultural systems both in terms of cost competiveness and sustainability credentials of Origin Green. Therefore, the Department is taking the opportunity to explore the synergies between the October 2014 European Council Conclusions on the 2030 Climate and Energy Framework and evolution of the CAP. In doing this the event will showcase a number of research projects, most of which is funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine’s research programmes, related to grasslands and broader land use which seek to improve our understanding of the carbon sequestration potential of our natural land resources to contribute to multiple environmental issues while supporting the rural economy.
