Government Chief-Whip and Minister of State for the Irish language, the Gaeltacht and the Islands today (18 January) announced that he has approved a grant of up to €5,068 or 50% of the total cost, whichever is the lesser, to enable the College to buy film and sound equipment and a rubber pathway.

The College has said that this grant will be of great help as the College wants to cater to more students and to promote Irish among those students, both young and old, all year round. The content of the grant will benefit the people of the area who organise activities through Irish in the hall.

This grant has been approved in accordance with the provisions in the Community and Language Support Programme under acts 2.13 and 2.22 of the Government’s Action Plan 2018-2022 for Irish, which was launched in June 2018,

said the Minister of State as he made the announcement.

Of course, my Department is working all the time to ensure that there is integration between local businesses, functioning language planning and applying the Policy on Gaeltacht Education 2017-2022. It is in this particular context that we have taken the opportunity to consolidate this integration for Coláiste Chamuis.

He then went on to say that he hoped that this grant would help the college to play an active part in both the language planning process and in the completion of ordinary activities and events that are currently ongoing.
