The Minister for Justice and Equality, Mr Charlie Flanagan T.D., formally
presented a copy of the newly-published Irish version of the Rules of the
Superior Courts 1986 to Supreme Court Judge Frank Clarke at a press
occasion in his Department’s headquarters on Thursday 27th July.

With the publication of the Irish version of those Rules the Department has
now published the official Irish version of the 1986, the 1997 and the 2001
consolidations of the Rules of the Superior Courts, the District Court
Rules and the Circuit Court Rules, respectively, and many of the Amendments
subsequently made to them, including the Rules of the Superior Courts
(Court of Appeal Act 2014) 2014.

Speaking in Irish at the occasion, the Minister said: “I am very pleased
that the terminology in the Irish version of the District Court Rules 1997
and the Circuit Court Rules 2001 is also available to a wider audience than
those in the legal profession, thanks to Fiontar. With grant-aid from the
Department of the Gaeltacht, Fiontar has made terms from those District and
Circuit Court Rules available on their popular electronic dictionary, at
www.tearma.ie. And excerpts from the Rules are available on their parallel
corpus on www.gaois.ie. We are also aiming to do the same with the Irish
version of the Rules of the Superior Courts 1986.”

Minister Flanagan thanked Judge Clarke, who is the Chairman of the Irish
Legal Terms Advisory Committee (which validated terms in the Forms in the
consolidated Rules), and congratulated him on his nomination as the next
Chief Justice.
