Minister Alex White welcomes energy price cuts from SSE Airtricity and Electric Ireland

Minister for Energy, Alex White T.D., today (Friday) welcomed SSE Airtricity’s announcement that it is to reduce its household electricity prices by 2% from 11 January 2016. He also welcomed Electric Ireland’s announcement that it is to reduce its standard gas unit prices for residential and SME business customers by 2.5% from 1 January 2016.

SSE Airtricity estimates that the price reductions will reduce annual domestic electricity bills by €23 for customers on its most popular Direct Debit and eBilling Standard tariff. Electric Ireland estimates that residential gas customers will benefit from an average saving of €20.22.

Minister White said: "The announcement of further energy price reductions from SSE Airtricity and Electric Ireland is a welcome development and an indication that competition is working for customers.”

Minister White added “It is hugely important that consumers shop around to ensure that they get the best possible price and service deal and I would encourage them to do so. There are many value offers in the market from suppliers, including significant discounts."
