Minister Creed seeks proposals for Food Waste Reduction and Agri-Food Tourism Initiatives

The Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Michael Creed T.D., announced a competitive public procurement procedure under the 2018 Rural Innovation and Development Fund for Agri-Food Tourism Initiatives and Food Waste Reduction Proposals.

Total funding available is as follows:
€419,000 for at least 9 projects supporting agri-food tourism initiatives (which may also include rural food markets).
€200,000 for proposals relating to the promotion and/or development of innovative food waste reduction projects which are designed to reduce food waste generated in rural areas.

· With regard to the support for agri-food tourism projects (that may also include rural food markets) a Request for Tender (RFT) was published on 18 June 2018 on the eTenders website and the Official Journal of the European Union (RFT 135647). Site registration for eTenders will be necessary at http://www.etenders.gov.ie/ - Supplier Registration – to access the RFT. The RFT relates to the provision of services for the support of agri-food tourism projects. The deadline for submission of tenders is 12:00 (noon) on 24 July 2018. Tenders will be assessed through a competitive process for funding of proposed projects. Agri-food tourism broadly is the practice of offering an activity or activities in rural areas to visit areas of well-known agricultural produce and to sample and taste the local or regional produce or cuisine.

The RFT relates to the provision of services for the support of food waste reduction projects which are designed to reduce food waste generated by food businesses, retailers/wholesalers or suppliers in rural areas. The deadline for submission of applications is 12:00 (noon) on 24 July 2018. Tenders will be assessed through a competitive process for funding of proposed projects.
