Minister Damien English Launches St Teresa’s Gardens Strategic Plan

Damien English, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, launched the St. Teresa’s Gardens Regeneration Board Strategic Plan 2018-2021.

Commissioned in 2017, the 3 year Strategic Plan outlines how the Regeneration Board and the staff team will work to ensure the progression of the regeneration project for St. Teresa’s Gardens in a timely and positive manner. Construction of the first new 54 social homes at the location is due to commence in the coming months.

The Regeneration board have undertaken an extensive consultation process involving local residents and stakeholders. The Minister welcomed the efforts of Dublin City Council and The Regeneration Board, stating:

I commend the work of the City Council in preparing, consulting and adopting the Development Framework for St Teresa's Gardens and the invaluable role of the Regeneration Board in ensuring the support of the community for the development of the site.

Over the lifetime of Rebuilding Ireland, some €211 million is being made available under the Department’s Regeneration Programme for the provision of in excess of 1,000 additional homes, including the development at St Teresa’s Gardens. Minister English added:

Regeneration goes beyond mere bricks and mortar. In order to be successful and sustainable in the long term, a regeneration project requires the re-building of a community and a strengthening of community bonds, which is where social regeneration projects and community groups have an important role to play.

The Minister wished the Regeneration Board and Dublin City Council all the very best as they embark on the next phase of this vital regeneration project and navigate the challenging process of regeneration together.
