Minister Harris welcomes decisions of INMO & IMO memberships

Minister for Health Simon Harris TD has welcomed the decision of the INMO membership to vote in favour of the Public Service Stability Agreement following the INMO Executive’s decision to recommend acceptance.

Speaking after the outcome of the ballot was announced, Minister Harris said “I am delighted that the INMO membership has voted by a three to one margin to accept the agreement. I believe this positive vote is in the best interests of INMO members. The Public Service Pay Commission has already noted the recruitment difficulties in nursing and midwifery. This result will allow the Commission give full consideration to these difficulties and the issues highlighted by the INMO in the coming months.

In the interim I and my Department remain fully committed to the Nursing Agreement conclude earlier this year and will continue to engage with the INMO in the months ahead on implementation of the measures in the Agreement aimed at supporting recruitment and retention.”

The Minister is also very pleased that the Irish Medical Organisation has voted in favour of the agreement by a very significant margin - 85% to 15%. The Pay Commission will also be examining difficulties in recruitment and retention in certain consultant specialties, NCHDs and other medical grades.
