Minister Katherine Zappone announces 2018 Network Funding to organisations working to improve outcomes for children under the Quality and Capacity Building Initiative (QCBI)
The Minister for Children and Youth Affairs Dr Katherine Zappone TD is pleased to announce the following 2018 awards for the “Network Support Fund”, a Quality and Capacity Building Initiative (QCBI), supported through Dormant Accounts Funding

GOSHH Ireland CLG (Gender, Orientation, Sexual Health, HIV)
GOSHH intends to invite Social Workers, Mental Health & CAMHS professionals from across the Mid-West to discuss appropriate referral pathways for LGBTI Young People.
The aim of the training programme is to equip participants with the tools and resources in order to work LGBTI young people. The day will be structured into information session, brainstorming and knowledge sharing about how best to benefit the young people in our area. | €2,000 | Co. Limerick |
| Prevention and Early Intervention Network (PEIN) The Prevention and Early Intervention Network (PEIN) was formed in 2010, to bring together evidence-based practice, advocacy and research organisations, in order to share, develop and disseminate learning; support the work of member organisations; and shape policy and practice, nationally, internationally and locally. PEIN intend hiring a facilitator to work with two new working groups, exploring the topics of Adverse Childhood Experiences and the impact of homelessness on families. The facilitator will help the groups form Terms of Reference, elect a chairperson and identify timelines for actions. | €2,000 | Co. Dublin |
Cavan County Childcare Committee CLG
Cavan CCC encourages the development of childcare locally, providing support and advice to parents and practitioners.
The Cavan CCC will hold a workshop for early years’ practitioners to improve the understanding of trauma by supporting children through play. | €1,600 | Co. Cavan |

Breaking Through Company Limited by Guarantee
The main focus of Breaking Through's work is to develop and coordinate the Irish Aftercare Network.Breaking Through also co-ordinates and manages Suicide Intervention Skills Training such as safeTALK (Suicide Alertness for Everyone) and ASIST ( Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) on behalf of HSE in Kildare/ West Wicklow, Dublin West , Dublin South City and Dublin South West areas. To support The Irish Aftercare Network working with those working directly or indirectly with young people leaving care in Ireland. The funding will support the delivery of meetings of the network and the annual Irish aftercare Network Seminar. | €13,200 | Co Kildare |
Cavan County Council Arts Office
The aims of Cavan CC Arts Office are - Support artistic excellence and innovation in the arts
- Consolidate and build on strategic partnerships across all artforms
- Raise the public profile of the arts across County Cavan
- Foster public engagement and participation
- Strengthen the management and operation of the Arts Office
The funding is to grow their existing Network of key stakeholders: teachers, CYPSC, Cavan Monaghan Mental Health Services, social workers and leaders equipping them through learning, action/research and networking to identify needs, gather data, communicate outcomes and influence strategic policy to ensure that young people are supported through arts interventions to build resilience. This approach will provide evidence of best practice arts-based approaches for early prevention and intervention for children and families. | €20,000 | Co Cavan |
CASP CSMT (Community Substance Misuse Team, Limerick) CASP CSMT (Community Substance Misuse Team) aims to assist youths, families and communities to develop effective and supportive coping strategies to deal with substance misuse in the Mid West.
The funding is to develop a community of practice focusing on a uniform evidence based approach to working with young people with substance abuse problems. Evidence reflects favourable on models such as: Community Reinforcement Approach, Motivational interviewing, Dialectic Behavioural Therapy for supporting young people while strong evidence in family support for Strengthening Families Programme and the 5 step method. CSMT would like to develop Limerick City as a community of practice for professionals working with adolescent substance use and deliver a comprehensive multi systemic training programme to these professionals incorporating above evidence based practice to improve overall outcomes for young people, targeting 20 professionals in Limerick from a range of disciplinarians. | €9,000 | Co Limerick |

The measure aims to support organisations promoting evidence informed approaches to prevention and early intervention services, so that those working with and for children, young people and their families are supported in doing the right things, in the right way and at the right time.
In launching the QCBI Network Funding earlier this month, the Minister said:
I am delighted to announce funds for Organisations working with and for children and young people, to further support them in accessing essential training, workshops, networking and sharing events. I am confident all those successful in their application will use the learning they’ll achieve towards making a positive difference to the lives of children and young people living in Ireland.
These grants awarded to date under the QCBI Network Funding will enable facilitation of formal and informal knowledge sharing explicitly focussed on enhancing practice and professional dialogue and curiosity around evidence informed prevention and early intervention.
Note:
The 2018/2019 QCBI Network Support Fund will be open for applications until 5 November 2019 and grant decisions will be made several times during 2019. The closing date for applications may be revised, subject to funding availability.
Grant allocations will be awarded on an annual basis, minimum of €1,000 and maximum of €20,000 per year per applicant.

The QCBI is an initiative designed by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs to ensure those working with children, young people and their families build on the existing body of evidence demonstrating the impact of prevention and early intervention approaches, models and practices on outcomes for children
