Minister Madigan announces additional funding for promotion of Irish culture abroad

The Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Josepha Madigan TD, has today welcomed the provision of an additional €500,000 for the promotion of Irish culture abroad under the Global Ireland 2025 initiative.

Global Ireland is the Government’s initiative on Ireland’s global footprint to 2025, recognising that Ireland’s unique culture is a powerful way for us to introduce ourselves globally and proposes a number of actions to enhance the promotion of Ireland in the global arena.

Minister Madigan said: “In support of the objectives of the Global Ireland 2025 initiative, my Department has received an additional allocation of €500,000 for Culture Ireland for a programme of events at home and overseas, building on the success of the GB18 programme and focusing in particular on Ireland’s strong global music reputation.”

In 2018, Culture Ireland supported projects in 50 countries reaching a combined audience of 3 million, including a well-received, GB18 programme – which with an investment of over €1m, saw 118 projects presented to total audiences of half a million throughout the UK, with over 200 venues in the programme featuring Culture Ireland supported events for the very first time.
