Minister Eoghan Murphy, T.D., Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government today (12 December 2018) published the Quarter 3 2018 Social Housing Construction Projects Status Report, which sets out the continuing progress being made in advancing the national Local Authority and Approved Housing Body new-build construction projects.
The Minister also published details in respect of overall social housing delivery across all programmes for Quarter 3 2018, broken down on a local authority basis and tracked against 2018 targets. Key points to note:

• At the end of Q3 2018, some 18,781 additional housing solutions had been provided across all local authorities this year. This is or 74% of the target for 2018 and an increase of 6,423 on the position at end Q2.
• Looking specifically at build, the cumulative output to end Q3 2018 was at 2,369 or 48% of the target for 2018. It should be noted that build output across the first three quarters of 2018 is up significantly on the same period last year, more than 80% higher.
• The Construction Status report shows that 4,933 homes were under construction at end Q3 2018; and some 2,652 homes had been approved and were about to go on site.
• The full programme listed in the report now includes 1,180 schemes (or phases), delivering 17,676 homes – a very substantial increase on the 12,293 homes which were in the programme at the end of the same quarter last year.
• There has been a net increase of 1,325 homes in the pipeline over the Q2 position. Some 4,313 homes in the report have reached completion stage in 2016, 2017 and to end Q3 2018.
• Minister Murphy stated:

“Good progress is being made across the suite of delivery streams under Rebuilding Ireland. Our targets are ambitious for 2018 and we are working hard to achieve those targets.
As has been the case in recent years, delivery is weighted towards year end. Delivery is being carefully monitored at Local Authority level and all stakeholders are mobilised to drive the earliest completions possible.”
The Construction Status Report details new builds in social housing by local authorities and housing bodies, though excluding LA Part V and shows a net increase of 1,325 units in the pipeline over the Quarter.
Of particular note is that 2,652 units that are at final pre-construction stage and about to go on-site, this is an increase of 68% on the previous quarter (1,577).
