Ministers Ross and Griffin congratulate Irish team on their fantastic performance at the World Rowing Championships in Austria

The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Mr. Shane Ross, TD, and the Minister of State with responsibility for Sport, Mr. Brendan Griffin, TD, congratulate Sanita Puspure, Ronan Byrne, Philip Doyle, Fintan McCarthy and Paul O Donovan on their medal achievements at the World Rowing Championships in Austria and for qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics.

 

Minister Ross said: “I would like congratulate the Irish team on their fantastic performance at the World Rowing Championships in Austria. In particular I would like to congratulate Sanita Puspure, Fintan McCarthy and Paul O’Donovan on winning gold and Philip Doyle and Ronan Byrne for winning silver and for qualifying for next year’s Olympics. These achievements are a tribute to the hard work, commitment and dedication of the team to reach the highest levels in their sport and will provide further encouragement and inspiration to many young rowers throughout Ireland who aspire to represent their country.”

Minister Griffin said: “It has been a wonderful week for Irish Rowing with Sanita Puspure, Fintan McCarthy, Paul O’Donovan, Philip Doyle and Ronan Byrne all achieving fantastic medal wins and qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics. They can all feel very proud of their performances this week and I would like to wish them and all the team the best of luck in their preparations for Tokyo.”
