Ministers invite expressions of interest to fill vacancies on Board of National College of Art and Design (NCAD)

The Minister for Education and Skills, Richard Bruton, T.D., and the Minister for Higher Education, Mary Mitchell O’Connor, T.D., today invited expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill up to 6 vacancies on the Board of the National College of Art and Design (NCAD), including the position of Chair. The three year term of office of the Board (referred to as An Bord) expires on 1st March, 2018.

Minister Bruton highlighted the importance of these appointments:

“As Minister for Education and Skills, I understand the value of the Arts in our education system and the important role it plays in promoting a workforce that is not only technically skilled but culturally rounded also. The National College of Art and Design offers the largest range of art and design degrees in the State at undergraduate and postgraduate level and in that context, it is the State’s leading provider of art and design education. It is therefore important that the College is ably supported and assisted by An Bord to achieve its strategic ambitions.”

The process of filling the vacancies on the Board of the National College of Art and Design is being managed by the Department of Education and Skills.

The Department will undertake an assessment process in relation to the expressions of interest received. At the end of that process, the Minister will be provided with a list of candidates deemed to be suitable for appointment to An Bord, from which the Minister will make his selection.

Minister Mitchell O Connor pointed to the role of An Bord:

“An Bord of NCAD plays a fundamental role in the management and governance of the College and the organisation and administration of its affairs. To date, An Bord has made significant progress in addressing some legacy issues within NCAD in relation to governance and administration and it is vital that this important work is continued. Therefore, I would encourage candidates who possess the qualifications, skills and experience necessary to make an effective contribution to apply for membership of An Bord, including the important position of Chair”.

A detailed Information Booklet can be found here and expressions of interest may be made by submitting a Curriculum Vitae and detailed cover letter to boardvacancies@education.gov.ie

The closing date for the receipt of applications is 9th February 2018.
