Ministers wish Ruby Walsh well as he announces his retirement

The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Mr Shane Ross, TD, and the Minister with responsibility for Sport, Mr Brendan Griffin, TD, have today wished Ruby Walsh well on his retirement.

Minister Ross said “I want to wish Ruby the very best and to acknowledge the hard work and commitment he has given to horse racing and to Irish Sport over his incredible career. He has been a tremendous ambassador for horse racing and for Ireland. I wish Ruby, his wife Gillian and their three daughters Isabelle, Elsa and Gemma good health and happiness for the future”

Minister of State Griffin said “Ruby is one of Irelands great Sportspersons. He has given the Irish nation some very happy memories with twelve Irish Champion jockey wins. It is only fitting that Ruby announced his retirement after winning the Coral Punchestown Gold Cup yesterday. I wish Ruby and his family all the best in his retirement”.
