Statement by the Minister for Justice and Equality, Mr Charlie Flanagan TD in relation to the discovery of human remains in Coolock on 13 January 2020

As Minister for Justice and Equality, I wish to express my shock and horror at the discovery of dismembered human remains in Dublin yesterday.  This was a depraved act of violence.  I wish to extend my sincere sympathy to the family of the victim.

A full investigation into this dreadful crime has been launched. I know from the Garda Commissioner that the full weight of An Garda Síochána will be brought to bear on this matter. I also want to reassure people living in the locality that their concerns and the issue of violent crime in their area is being taken seriously at the highest levels, as reflected in the ever increasing levels of Gardaí allocated to their area.

I urge all persons to cooperate with An Garda Síochána and to pass any information they may have, no matter how small, on to Gardaí. This can be done by calling Coolock Garda Station on 01-6664200 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or indeed by contacting any Garda station nationwide.
