Storm Erik – Public Notice from National Parks & Wildlife Service (NPWS) of the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht

Due to the Status Orange warning issued by Met Éireann for tomorrow (Friday 8th February) for counties Galway and Mayo, all National Parks & Wildlife Service (NPWS) properties in the Western Region will be closed for the duration of the warning. Sites to be closed include

  • Connemara National Park
  • Wild Nephin Ballycroy National Park
  • Derryclare Nature Reserve
  • Old Head Nature Reserve
  • Knochma Wood, near Tuam, Co. Galway
  • Laughil Wood, near Pontoon, Co. Mayo

A decision on properties in the Northern Region will be advised – with a Status Orange warning also in place for County Donegal.

A Status Yellow warning is in place for the remainder of the country, and while other properties may remain open, the NPWS would ask that anyone intending to visit our properties during these weather warnings, be aware of additional risks and hazards associated with the specific type of weather warning at our properties (such as risk of falling/fallen trees, flying debris, trips/falls etc.) and that they take any necessary preventative action, including avoidance, to minimise the risk of injury.

Further updates will be provided as the weather forecast becomes clearer and/or as Met Éireann weather advisory notices are updated – see www.meteireann.ie  for weather warning and updates.
