Minister Alan Kelly publishes a draft Framework Policy for Local and Community Development

The Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, Alan Kelly TD, today (30 January, 2015) commenced a public consultation for a national overarching policy on local and community development.

The policy will reflect the shared commitment of national and local government to engage with communities in the planning and delivery of local and community development programmes.

Minister Kelly said that the policy “will provide a framework for promoting, supporting and investing in community development actions and approaches that will bring communities together, empower them to identify their own needs and priorities and provide them with the skills and knowledge to influence, shape and participate in decision making processes and bring about change for the benefit of people within those communities”.
