Minister Flanagan welcomes appointment of Mary Robinson as UN Special Envoy for Climate Change

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Charlie Flanagan TD, has warmly welcomed the appointment by UN Secretary General Ban KI-Moon of Mary Robinson as Special Envoy for Climate Change.

“This is a very significant international role a year ahead of major negotiations on climate change and international development. The appointment is both an honour for Ireland and a tribute to Mary Robinson’s stature on climate change and human rights issues and across the UN system."

Minister Flanagan paid tribute to the role that Mary Robinson played as UN Special Envoy for the Great Lakes Region, not least in bringing much-needed international attention to the complex challenges of the region. He noted that the Government had strongly supported her role in the Great Lakes and looked forward to working with her in her new role.
