Minister Harris unveils a scaled bust of Senator Edward Kennedy at the National University of Ireland Maynooth

To mark the 5th Anniversary of the passing of Senator Edward (Ted) Kennedy, Simon Harris TD, Minister of State with special responsibility for the Office of Public Works (OPW), today presented the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for Conflict Intervention (National University of Ireland Maynooth) with a bronze representation of the Senator.

Speaking at the University this afternoon Minister Harris said "It is my great pleasure to be here today to present this bronze sculpture, as commissioned by OPW. The sculpture is by renowned Irish artist Rory Breslin and is based on his piece that is on display at the Kennedy Homestead in Wexford."

The Minister referred to the series of significant OPW events and developments, that took place in Co Wexford in 2013, to mark the visit and anniversary of the Senator's brother, President John F. Kennedy including the opening of the new Visitor Centre and the installation of a permanent exhibition on the life and times of the late President.

The Minister concluded, "I believe it is fitting that we honour the memory of Senator Kennedy who will be remembered for his significant role in the Northern Ireland Peace Process and as a great friend to Ireland. I am delighted to be present to unveil the sculpture here at the wonderful Institute that bears his name."
