Minister Cannon congratulates the election of Michael Moriarty as President of the European Federation of Education Employers

The Minister for Training and Skills, Ciaran Cannon T.D., today congratulated Michael Moriarty, General Secretary of Education and Training Boards Ireland (ETBI), on his election as President of the European Federation of Education Employers.

Paying tribute to Mr Moriarty, Minister Cannon said “Michael Moriarty is a key player in the education and training sector in Ireland. He has made an invaluable contribution to the work of the sector through his role as General Secretary of ETBI.”

ETBI was established in July 2013 and replaced the Irish Vocational Education Association (IVEA). This reflected the dissolution of 33 vocational education committees and their replacement with 16 education and training boards.

“The education and training sector is undergoing the most significant reform since the inception of vocational education committees over 80 years ago. The establishment of education and training boards, the replacement of FÁS with SOLAS and the integration of further education and training represent seismic shifts in our approach to the sector. Michael Moriarty’s leadership has been pivotal to the progress made on that reform agenda.”

The Minister concluded by saying that he was “delighted with the well-deserved recognition Michael has received in his election to this prestigious position. I wish him every success for the future.”
