Statement by Minister Flanagan on publication of the report of panel looking at paramilitarism

Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Charlie Flanagan TD, welcomed today’s publication of the report of the three person panel looking at paramilitarism.

The Minister said:

“This is a very valuable contribution to our understanding of the complex issues which must be addressed if Northern Ireland is to move beyond paramilitarism. The report makes recommendations to the Northern Ireland Executive and to the two Governments, which I look forward to discussing with the Executive Ministers and with the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Theresa Villiers.

"This report follows on from the Fresh Start Agreement and will inform the development of an Executive Strategy aimed at putting an end to the scourge of paramilitarism. The Executive has my support in that task.”
