The main political parties in Northern Ireland have today been invited to participate in political talks on Monday 3 April 2017, at Stormont Castle, Belfast.

In a shared approach, the Irish and British Governments have agreed that this phase of talks will be best supported by an intensive process to drive progress.

These talks have two objectives. First, to allow the the political parties to reach an agreement on the formation of a new Executive. Second, to address the implementation of outstanding issues from previous Agreements.

Minister Flanagan said:

“The heart of the Good Friday Agreement is its interlocking political institutions operating on the basis of partnership, equality and mutual respect. As a co-guarantor of the Agreement, the Irish Government is determined to uphold its principles and protect its institutions. In the days ahead we will work with all concerned to this end.

“I believe it is critically important to see devolved Government restored and working effectively in the interests of the people of Northern Ireland, in particular in the context of Brexit.”
