The Shannon based Coast Guard helicopter is proceeding to evacuate an injured crewman off an Irish fishing vessel approximately 120 miles West of the Blasket Islands. Valentia Rescue Coordination Centre received a request for assistance from an Irish registered fishing vessel this afternoon. The vessel had reported that a crewmember had suffered an injury on-board the fishing vessel and required hospitalisation. Because of the distance involved communications support known as ‘Top Cover’ is being provided by a second Coast Guard helicopter. The Coast Guard helicopter is expected to rendezvous with the fishing vessel at 5.30 pm.
