Minister Varadkar welcomes 40% cut in air traffic control charges

Minister for Transport, Tourism & Sport Leo Varadkar has welcomed the decision to cut air traffic control charges by 40% over the next four years, which will help to reduce operating costs for airlines.

“This is a very welcome decision by the Commission for Aviation Regulation (CAR). The 40% reduction in air traffic control charges will reduce costs for airlines using Dublin, Cork and Shannon airports.

“Lower costs for airlines, even marginal ones, will help the Government’s efforts to encourage more visitors to Ireland and build on the tourism-promotion measures in the Jobs Initiative.

“I particularly welcome the fact that the CAR has linked this decision to performance targets, which should benefit passengers in terms of service standards.

“Meanwhile, I am working with the Commission for Aviation Regulation and the DAA to bring about a reduction in airport charges.”
