Appointment to the Circuit Court

At its meeting today the Government decided to nominate Judge Thomas O’Donnell for appointment by the President to the Circuit Court.

The vacancy arises from the retirement in March last of His Hon. Judge Frank O’Donnell.

The Government will take the necessary steps to formally advise President McAleese of the nomination in accordance with Constitutional procedures.

Biographical Details for Judge O’Donnell:

Born 1954

Educated: Crescent College Limerick; University College Dublin

Enrolled as a solicitor 1976

Joined the Legal Aid Panel 1980

Appointed as a Judge of the District Court 1988

Assigned to District No.14 (Limerick) 1999

Member of the District Court Rules Committee 2003 to date
