“It is very sad to hear of the passing of Dr Garrett Fitzgerald. Many of the representatives in Leinster House entered politics because of Dr Fitzgerald. He was particularly active in recruiting women into politics, including myself. He set an example of honour, decency and dignity, of insight, analysis and of a commitment to the service of a country he helped to shape. He was one of the few politicians who commanded the respect of not only those who supported him, but those who opposed him. He will be missed.”
