Jimmy Deenihan TD, Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, today congratulated Wicklow resident Daniel Day Lewis on his Oscar winning performance in Lincoln.

"Daniel has a remarkable talent by any standard. A third Oscar triumph - each marking very distinct, demanding and complex roles across 24 years - is an extraordinary achievement. We are privileged to see this great artist at the height of his powers, and his place in the Movie Hall of Fame is now absolutely without peer".

The Minister also congratulated Ireland's two other nominees on the evening, Fodhla Cronin O'Reilly and Seamus Mc Garvey. "To achieve the recognition of one's peers and gain entry into this elite nominees' list is an extraordinary achievement for Fodhla and yet again for Seamus. Their talent is enduring and I have no doubt that we will see them triumph again on future occasions", he added.
