Day which is presented by Music Network in association with RTÉ lyric fm and funded by the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht and The Arts Council.

This day-long celebration of Irish music which received some €45,000 from the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht comprising capital and current costs associated with the organisation of the event for 2012 will see over 300 free live music events across the country.

Minister Deenihan congratulated Music Network and its partners for once again arranging an exciting and varied programme of events throughout the country.

"I want to encourage everyone to take advantage of the range of activities which are available on this unique day of music celebration. On this mid summers day, where the weather is disappointing it’s a lovely opportunity to lift your spirit by taking time to enjoy some of the musical recitals arranged throughout the country.   If it is going to a park to hear a band, or experiencing a new sound coming from an unusual location, be adventurous and  enter into the spirit of the occasion. I hope that by listening to and being aware of the countless opportunities which will be on offer today, that you may be encouraged to explore your musical interests further whether by seeking out new musical activities or by taking part in a new musical challenge” said Minister Deenihan.
