Minister for Children & Youth Affairs Backs Jedward for Eurovision Title

Frances Fitzgerald T.D., Minister for Children and Youth Affairs has backed Jedward, for Eurovision success. The Lucan twins, John and Edward Grimes, are set to make Eurovision history by representing Ireland two years in a row.

Jedward are set to take the stage at the semi-finals in Azerbaijan tomorrow (Tuesday) with their new hit ‘Waterline’. They must place in the first ten acts to gain entry into the finals on the 26th of May.

When asked whether she will be watching, Minster Fitzgerald said, “There’s no doubt about it ‘Jedward’ have a great talent for giving us all a lift. Their enthusiasm and energy is infectious and I will one of the many tuning in to follow their progress in the Eurovision.

Minister Fitzgerald who represents the Dublin Mid West constituency, home to the famous twins, was an avid supporter of Jedward during their X-Factor bid in 2009.

“I remember being part of their dedicated following in Lucan when John and Edward first burst onto the scene during the X-Factor. There was a fantastic show of support throughout the country for the twins and a huge crowd used to gather every weekend in Lucan to cheer them on.

“I recently had the pleasure of touring RTÉ’s Young Peoples television productions and met John and Edward on the set of their popular TV show ‘Dream Factory’. After achieving their own dreams, I am impressed at how passionate they are about helping other young people achieve their ambitions and aspirations.

“In many ways Jedward are an inspiration to the younger generation. Their can-do attitude and determination has brought them huge success and their work with the ISPCC and the leading role they took in their anti-bullying campaign is something to be commended. Their boundless energy and enthusiasm has managed to capture the imagination of children and adults alike,” concluded Fitzgerald.
