Ministers welcome engagement in Irish Football Stakeholder Forum

The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Mr. Shane Ross, TD, and the Minister of State with responsibility for Sport, Mr. Brendan Griffin, TD, today hosted the Irish Football Stakeholder Forum in the Round Room at the Mansion House, Dublin. The Ministers welcomed the broad engagement from all sectors of the football community in Ireland at the Forum.

Minister Ross said: “I would like to express my thanks to all who attended today to share their views on the future of Irish football. Today’s forum was a long overdue discussion, bringing together representatives from across the football spectrum, male and female, from players, coaches and managers, officials, club representatives, volunteers, supporters, as well as the FAI staff, council and board. We have heard some really interesting and worthwhile proposals and I have no doubt that these will be considered very seriously by the Governance Review Group as they continue their important work.”

Minister Griffin said: “Today’s forum was an opportunity for people from every level of football to put forward their ideas for the future of the game in Ireland, and for the re-structuring process currently underway in the FAI. We have recorded the contributions of all participants in today’s discussions, for consideration by the Governance Review Group chaired by Aidan Horan. I am sure that today’s event will spark some new thinking, and help to chart a course for the FAI to make real progress on governance reform.”
