From 5 August, the international culture spotlight shines on Edinburgh as performances begin at the Edinburgh Festivals including those by Irish artists supported by Culture Ireland as part of its Showcase Programme.
Wishing them luck for their Edinburgh performances, Minister Heather Humphreys, commented:
“Each year our artists look forward to this important annual event and the opportunities it offers. The long term close relationship Ireland has with Scotland in the area of arts and culture and beyond is truly valued and it is our close contacts which make this time in Edinburgh truly special for Irish artists.”
The six shows, supported by Culture Ireland feature the best of Ireland’s contemporary theatre and dance artists. Later this month, the Edinburgh International Book Festival programme includes many established and emerging Irish writers with Culture Ireland support.
In addition, Culture Ireland leads a delegation of Irish producers and artists and hosts a special Networking event for Irish artists to meet with international programmers and presenters.
In previous years, artists and companies who have featured as part of Culture Ireland’s programme have gone on to international success and acclaim and many of these international dates have arisen on the basis of their Edinburgh appearances.
Culture Ireland acknowledges the importance of the partners who assist in raising the profile of Irish artists throughout the Festival season, including key Edinburgh venues and Festivals (Dance Base, Pleasance, Summerhall, Edinburgh International Book Festival) and the Irish Consulate in Edinburgh.
